Fundraising Committee
"It is more blessed to give than to receive. [Acts 20:35]"
What is the Fundraising Committee?
Simply put, the Fundraising Committee is a small group of volunteers who have made a concerted effort to raise funds beyond those collected in each week’s offertory.
The Fundraising Committee was formed in 2009 out of the immediate need to pay for costly repairs to the church’s exterior. (Click here to view a Powerpoint of the church’s damaged exterior.) The goal of the committee is to raise $325,000 before the end of 2011.
What does the Committee do?
Each year, the Fundraising Committee forms an ambitious roster of events and initiatives designed to focus on the “fun” of fundraising. From collecting pocket change to soliciting major pledges, the Committee thinks of new and creative ideas to build community while bringing money into the parish.
Past accomplishments include:
- More than $5000 raised through Pennies for Preservation
- “For the love of Pete” Fundraising Campaign kick-off event
- Pledge Drive that has raised almost $200,000 towards the overall goal
- “Sights and Sounds of St. Peter’s” event featuring a concert for voice, organ and trumpet, as well as tours of the church artwork
The Fundraising Committee continues to work towards the $325,000 goal, but we need your help! Consider joining the Fundraising Committee and experience the rewards of giving back to your home parish. Committee chairs are David Huizenga (704.395.2031; shuizenga@carolina.rr.com) and Celia Klein (704.502.8112; celia@GoWithGCI.com).
Why does the church need money?
Like many community organizations and non-profit organizations, St. Peter’s has felt the effects of the economic slow-down. When the Parish Council agreed that the exterior Preservation project could no longer be delayed, it approved the expenditure which came from reserve funds. The goal of the Fundraising Committee is to replenish the “rainy day fund” that will protect the church in case of a true emergency.
St. Peter’s is the only parish in the Charlotte Diocese that is debt-free, and we intend to keep it that way!
