Get Involved - Educate the Future of the Church

The future of our church is its youth - impacting the life of a young person is impacting the future church!

There are many opportunities to get involved with the faith formation programs at St. Peter Catholic Church.  At every public baptism the entire parish community commits to educate the child in our faith, but beyond our own children we rarely have an opportunity to live this pledge.  Listed below are the many ways in which you can be involved in the faith formation programs in our parish.

All volunteers who work with children are required to participate in a three-hour workshop given by the diocese teaching how to protect our children from child abuse.  Beyond that each ministry will require some training.  This will be provided by St. Peter Church and could range from a two-hour session (CGS Assistant) to a series of regular meetings with someone from the parish (Baptism Prep.).  If you are interested or have question, please use the form at the bottom of this page.

Volunteer Opportunities

Sacramental Preparation for Baptism
This one hour class takes place every first Monday of the month.  It is mandatory for the parents having their first child baptized, but is open to all parishioners wanting to revisit their baptism call.  The participants learn the basics of Sacramental Theology, with specific discussion of the biblical symbols present in the Sacrament of Baptism.  The class includes discussion about what happens spiritually at baptism and also goes through the Rite itself.  Adequate training will be provided to prepare you to teach or assist in the class.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Assistant
Assistants aid the students as they work with educational materials and aid the Catechist in however the catechist deems appropriate.  There is an annual Saturday morning training to be an assistant, but you can also schedule a training thoughout the year be contacting Mark in the parish office.  Vounteers  help on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening at least once per month.

The program also is in need of skilled craft makers, including woodworking, calligraphy, art, etc.

First
Reconciliation and Eucharist
In that past, we offered an 8-week preparation process that met every other Wednesday evening for each sacrament and concluded with a 3-hour Saturday retreat.  This year the process is slightly less robust.  We will have one informational parent meeting for each sacrament, use an at home study program, and then offer a retreat.  There will also be two mandatory adult education sessions for the parents offered as a refresher course on the Sacrament of Eucharist.

Volunteers are needed for at the retreat and with the adult education sessions.  If you are interested in sharing your love of the Eucharist with others, please contact us using the online form found below.

Confirmation Year I

This course is a traditional style of education that meets every Sunday from 10:30 am until noon during the academic year.  The students, who are mostly 7th and 8th graders, discuss basic tenants of the Catholic faith and reflect on the Sunday readings.  There is currently a teacher in place, but a second who can commit to next year would be helpful.

Confirmation Year II

This is a year of service and learning about Ignatian spirituality geared to give the students experiences with “faith that does justice” and provide the tools for them to reflect on their faith lives.  There are currently two teachers and six table leaders, but we are in need of a volunteer coordinator for the class.  If you are intersted in either working as a table leader in the class or with the volunteer activities, please contact us with the form below.

High School Ministry

St. Peter High School Ministry is underway!  Currently, we meet monthly to discuss a faith topic and also have some larger events in the works.  These include: a "box night” homelessness awareness event, the 30-hour Famine, a week-long summer service trip, and a weekend retreat.  We need help with any and all of these things – from planning to being a chaperone.

*****To participate in any event that has youth under the age of 18, you need to be trained and active in the diocesan Virtus Training, "Protecting God's Children".   Dates of the workshop can be found on the Diocesan website.
