Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools (“MACS”) Participation Voucher
Annual Assessment and Parish Subsidy
For the 2016-2017 school year, the Diocese has assessed St. Peter nearly $161,000 to support families with children enrolled in the Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools (MACS). This assessment – calculated by the Diocese for every parish – is based essentially on the number of students in the parish compared to the total MACS student population and compared to the net revenue of the parish. For the year 2016-17, the assessment is nearly 10% of St. Peter’s total annual budget, which is paid from St. Peter’s general operating funds. Ultimately, for each student enrolled in MACS during the current school year whose family is a parishioner, St. Peter has been assessed $1030 per student by the Diocese.
MACS Tuition Discount
MACS families who fulfill the criteria set by the Diocese in determining “Catholic Participation” receive a tuition discount per student between $3,783 and $4,265. Specifically, the discounts are as follows:
|Tuition 2015-2016||Elementary||Middle School||High School|
Eligibility for Tuition Discount
Because the tuition discount is significant, St. Peter has the duty and responsibility to ensure that each family benefiting from the tuition discount is actively engaged in our parish community. Every year, Father Shea receives from MACS a roster of families who are currently enrolled in MACS and are registered members of St. Peter. Father Shea must then confirm to the Diocese that each family on the roster is in good standing and, therefore, eligible for the tuition discount.
In exchange for the tuition discount, St. Peter asks three things of families: (1) to be registered at St. Peter for at least six months before requesting a tuition discount voucher from the parish office, (2) to regularly participate in the Eucharist, (3) if able, to support St. Peter financially in excess of the cost to the parish for your child to attend MACS, and (4) to participate in parish ministries and activities by sharing their time, talent and treasure. If transferring from another parish, a family must provide a letter from that parish identifying the family as participating parishioners.
Thank you for recognizing the importance of passing on and celebrating our Catholic faith with your children and ensuring continued support for Catholic education.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the parish office and speak with Fr. Shea.
