The 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. nursery is organized for Saint Peters Parishioners with children ages 6 months to 4 years (Children are encouraged to participate in the Faith Formation Program once they reach 4 years of age). Registration in the parish is required. The Adult/Child ratio is 1 adult per 6 children, and the nursery operates on a first come, first served basis. Our nursery is a cooperative program, where the parents of children using the nursery take turns working in it. In this way, we can maintain volunteers to run the nursery as well as have the benefit of participating more fully in the Mass. We welcome visitors to use the nursery twice prior to being obligated to join.

NURSERY VOLUNTEERS

  • Parents who use the nursery are responsible for taking their turn volunteering in the nursery.
  • All adult volunteers working in the nursery are required to complete the diocesan training workshop, "Protecting God's Children".  Registration information is available online at www.virtus.org and can be accessed using the password, "trust".
  • All adult volunteers working in the nursery are required to read the Policy of the Diocese of Charlotte Concerning Ministry Related Sexual Misconduct by Church Personnel, which is available online at www.charlottediocese.org
  • All adult volunteers working in the nursery are required to have a Volunteer Profile and signed Sexual Miscondut Policy document on file.
  • Volunteers will arrive at the nursery 15 minutes prior to Mass and stay until all children are returned to parents after Mass.
  • Each Nursery Volunteer will be responsible for no more than 6 children at one time.
  • Nursery Volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis, typically being scheduled once every six weeks.  (This may vary depending on the number of volunteers.)

DROP-OFF

  • Please write your child's name on the sign-in sheet.
  • Please place your child's nametag on their back.
  • If your child is being potty trained, please notify the nursery volunteer.
  • Every parent should bring a diaper bag with your last name clearly marked on it. The diaper bag should have two diapers or underwear, wipes and a change of clothing.
  • If your child becomes extremely upset or cries for longer than 10 minutes, the nursery volunteers will make every attempt to find you.
  • A "Nanny Cam" has been installed in the nursery so that, if needed, you can check on your child during Mass.  Your child can be viewed on the screen located in the left hand corner of the foyer of the church.

DISCIPLINE

  • We will use a time-out chair for discipline problems and for a calm down period. One minute for each year of age is the recommended duration of the time-out.
  • Any hitting, scratching, biting, kicking or other aggressive behavior will result in an immediate time-out for the child.
  • If this behavior occurs more than once, the child will be reported to the nursery coordinators. They will speak to the parents about the behavioral problem.
  • Please report any additional problems to the nursery coordinators.

  PICK-UP

  • After mass is over, please pick up your child where you dropped them off.
  • Children will only be released to an ADULT Parent or Guardian.

  ILLNESS

  • Pediatricians inform us that if a parent or child has had a fever within 48 hours, they are contagious and should not be in the nursery.
  • If you have any feeling at all that your child may be sick, PLEASE DO NOT BRING THEM TO THE NURSERY.
