Baptism

Contact the parish office at 704-332-2901 for information about baptism.  Before scheduling a baptism all parents need to submit the Baptism Registration Form and first-time parents need to complete a preparation class.

Baptisms are held during each mass on the second weekend of the month and at a Saturday baptism service on the fourth weekend of the month.  There are no baptisms during Advent or Lent.

First Reconciliation and Communion

Generally, second grade students prepare for these sacraments.  Preparation for First Reconciliation takes place in the fall and First Eucharist in the spring.  The Diocese requires students to have two years of catechesis prior to their sacramental year as well as during the year of their sacramental preparation.  In addition, all students must enroll in the parish sacramental program, whether enrolled in public or parochial schools.  Our preparation program includes a parent meeting at the beginning of the year and a “mini-retreat” the Saturday morning prior to each sacramental celebration.  Dates for the meeting and the retreats are on the Catechesis Calendar found on the Faith Formation homepage.

Confirmation

Confirmation I is for students who have completed a parish catechesis program who would like to begin the Confirmation process.  The class meets every Sunday morning from 10:30-12:00 pm.  This preparation year includes traditional academic work and spiritual discussions.  The texts used are The Handbook of the Catholic Faith and The Catholic Youth Bible, both from St. Mary’s Press.  Confirmation I is an excellent overview of scripture and Tradition that prepares students with an overview of a mature Catholic faith.

Confirmation II is for students who have completed Confirmation I or are 8th graders in a Catholic school religious education program.  The former superior general of the Jesuits, Pedro Arrupe, once said that the goal of Jesuit education was to form “men and woman for others”.  The goal of Confirmation II is to provide the tools for your child to become a man or woman for others.  To meet this goal, the year is spent learning about and putting into practice Ignatian spirituality.  Students meet first and third Sundays from 6:15-7:30 pm for classs, are required to complete 20 hours of service, and will participate in two Saturday events.  The Bishop’s office sets the calendar for Confirmation; as we get information we will pass it along, but it will likely be in May.  For more information, contact
