Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools (“MACS”) Participation Voucher

Annual Assessment and Parish Subsidy

For the 2019-2020 school year, the Charlotte Diocese has assessed St. Peter over $215,000 to support families with children enrolled in the Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools (MACS). This assessment, calculated by the Diocese for every parish, is based on the number of students in the parish compared to the total MACS student population, and compared to the net revenue of the parish. For the year 2019-2020, this assessment is 12% of our annual budget, which is paid from St. Peter’s general operating funds. This year St. Peter has been assessed over $1,200.00 per student, whose family is active in our parish.

MACS Tuition Discount

MACS families who fulfill the criteria set by the Diocese in determining “Catholic Participation” receive a tuition discount per student between $4,335 and $4,880. Specifically, the discounts are as follows:

Tuition 2019-2020 Elementary Middle School High School
Non Participating $11,365 $12,159 $16,232
Catholic Participation $7,030 $7,790 $11,352
Tuition Discount $4,335 $4,369 $4,880

Eligibility for Tuition Discount

Because the tuition discount is significant, St. Peter has the responsibility to ensure that each family benefiting from the tuition discount is actively engaged in our parish community. Each year St. Peter receives a roster of parish families currently enrolled in MACS. This roster is then confirmed with MACS that each listed family is in good standing and, therefore, eligible for the tuition discount.

In exchange for the tuition discount, St. Peter requests four things of families: (1) to be registered at St. Peter for at least six months before requesting a tuition discount voucher from the parish office, (2) to participate regularly in the Eucharist, (3) if able, to support St. Peter financially in excess of the cost to the parish for your child to attend MACS, and (4) to participate in parish ministries and activities by sharing your time, talent and treasure. If transferring from another parish, a family must provide a letter from that parish identifying the family as participating parishioners.

Thank you for recognizing the importance of passing on and celebrating our Catholic faith with your children and ensuring continued support for Catholic education.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the parish office and speak with Fr. Shea.
