Who We Are

We are an active parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte, NC.

St. Peter Catholic Church is one of 66 Jesuit parishes in the United States. Our parish has been staffed by Society of Jesus priests from the USA Jesuits East province since 1986.

The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) discerned four Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) in 2019 and they are guiding its united mission for the next ten years.

  1. To show the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and discernment.
  2. To walk with the poor, the outcasts of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of reconciliation and justice.
  3. To accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future.
  4. To collaborate in the care of our Common Home.

These four priorities drive the service and actions of St. Peter parishioners.

Ignatian Spirituality:

Ignatian spirituality is a spirituality for everyday life. It insists that God is present in our world and active in our lives. It is a pathway to deeper prayer, good decisions guided by keen discernment, and an active life of service to others.

Ignatian spirituality challenges us to encounter God in all things, witnessing to the joy of the Gospel. We go forth into the world as contemplatives in action, discerning God’s desire for our lives here, now, and acting on God’s invitation. We are women and men for and with others, hearing both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor—and responding. And we do all for the greater glory of God.
